About Mount Meru
At 4,566m, Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and Tanzania's second highest peak. About 250,000 years ago, a massive volcanic explosion swept away the eastern side, creating its distinctive appearance today. The ascent passes through diverse vegetation zones from forest to alpine desert, with chances to see wildlife including elephants, buffalo, and possibly leopards.
